Action by individuals

To ensure the success of both local tobacco control policy and the international Framework Convention on Tobacco Control in combating the global tobacco epidemic, individual Filipino citizens must play a key role in the ratification and implementation of the treaty. Individual Filipinos can take several actions in order to support the FCTC including the following:

What can you do?

Join the FCTC Alliance, Philippines (FCAP);

Write letters to newspapers in your area and to politicians, including the President, the Secretary of Health, your Congressman, your mayor and other elected officials, voicing your support for strong tobacco control legislation including

  • ratification by the Senate of the FCTC, which the Philippines signed in September 2003
  • a complete ban on tobacco advertising
  • raising of tobacco taxes
  • strict enforcement of the Clean Air Act and RA 9211, including the provision of 100% smokefree public places
  • large pictorial warnings on cigarette packs and other tobacco products

Write them, fax them, call them today!

Sign the Open Letter to President Arroyo;
