Tobacco-free 23rd SEA Games

The Philippines is set to host the 23rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games from Nov. 27 to Dec. 10, 2005.

Following Vietnam's example of officially declaring the 22nd SEA Games as tobacco-free, the Philippine organizers signed a Memorandum of Agreement on June 10, 2004 to ensure that these coming Games will also be tobacco-free.

  • no smoking at all indoor and outdoor training and competition venues
  • no sale of tobacco products at all training and competition venues
  • no tobacco advertisements at all training and competition venues, including TV coverage of the games
  • no tobacco sponsorships of organizers, coaches, or athletes
